New York’s attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, issued a subpoena to Sony on Tuesday requesting information about how it protects customers’ personal information. The company’s servers were breached by?unknown?hackers last month.
New York state law-enforcement officials said Mr. Schneiderman issued the?subpoena?to three divisions of Sony — Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Online Entertainment.
Sony has said that its servers were infiltrated by hackers resulting in the possible loss of more than 77 million customers’ personal information.
In online?underground?hacker forums, individuals claiming responsibility for the attacks on Sony said that software on the company’s servers was outdated, and that the security of the PlayStation Network was lax. PlayStation was one of several Sony services that were breached.
Patrick Seybold, senior director for corporate communications at Sony, said in an e-mail:?”We will review and respond to this request, and will continue to work with law enforcement authorities as they investigate the criminal attack on our networks.”
The?subpoenas?have been added to a long list of other questions for Sony coming from Congress, United States Senators and foreign countries.
